Welcome back to the City of Cornelia Blog! We are so excited to get this going again so that we can better connect with the community.
Cornelia is a great small town with a lot of big events coming up! We have the 2018 Apple Blossom Festival on April 21 from 11 – 5 where contestants will be smoking up their best barbecue in an attempt to make it to qualify for the Jack Daniel’s World Championships Invitational Barbecue. We will have competitors from all over attending this event cooking chicken, pork, and Brunswick stew. You can even taste some of their offerings for just $10! This is sure to be a good time so come out on Saturday, April 21 to join in the festivities.
But it isn’t just about barbecue! We have local bands and other live entertainment at this festival as well as vendors and a beer and wine garden. Did we mention that this is the only event in Cornelia that is open container? You can sip your wine or beer in the beer gardens at Bigg Daddys and Whistle Top Brew Company while watching competitors and enjoying the music. After the cooking is over, there will be cornhole and live music at Whistle Top Brew Company!
There will be a dance recital by Premiere Dance Academy as well on the main stage. We are proud to support our local entertainment groups and the event will feature Alan Baker & the Workin’ Man Band and the Second Time Around Band. The Kids Zone will have inflatables, airbrush tattoos and it is the opening day of the Cornelia Splash Pad so the kids can have an opportunity to cool off in that April sun.
The Chopped competition is going to be fun this year too! It is a mystery cut of chicken and a mystery basket of ingredients. The chefs have 45 minutes to cook and judges decide the winner up on the mainstage. It is a great way to showcase local chefs and put them under some pressure to create something new and interesting!
The main stage will be set up in front of the Historic Train Museum in Downtown Cornelia. Come inside and view the exhibits and learn a bit more about local history. You can also visit our gift shop and take something uniquely Cornelia home with you.
We are so excited about this event and we hope that you are too. It is going to be a lot of fun so come out and support your hometown!
